| Dr. Rebecca Bedell is currently the Minister of Worship at First Presbyterian Church of Orlando, FL. She serves on the pastoral staff and oversees all worship offerings and the Fine & Performing Arts. She supervises and serves on the creative team for worship production which regularly designs worship in styles ranging from high traditional to post-modern/contemplative. Dr. Bedell also serves as the primary musical conductor for FPCO. She has held previous posts as the Director of Choral Activities and Coordinator for Music Studies at Seminole Community College and the Director of Choral and Vocal Activities at Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, WV.
Dr. Bedell holds the Bachelor's Degree in Vocal Performance, with honors, as well as a Master's Degree in Vocal Performance and a second Master's Degree in Music Education from the University of Mississippi (Pi Kappa Lambda). She earned the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Conducting from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Dr. Bedell made her European conducting debut in St. Peters Basilica in Rome, Italy. She made her New York conducting debut at Carnegie Hall in 2007 conducting the New York Premier of Mass for a New Millennium by George Atwell. The concert received a standing ovation and four curtain calls. Dr. Bedell will be featured as a guest conductor for MidAmerica Productions in the summer of 2011 conducting Missa Kenya by Paul Basler and Regina Coeli by Mozart in Carnegie Hall. Dr. Bedell’s choirs have been recorded on Splendors of Versailles, Requiems for Tenebrae which features the Requiems of John Rutter and Maurice Duruflé and Emmanuel: God is With Us.
Choirs under her direction have been recognized with prestigious invitations to perform on concert sessions for the American Choral Directors Association. The choirs have also completed several concert tours throughout England, France, and Mexico. Her choirs have performed in Austria and the Czech Republic at the invitation of the Minister of Culture for those countries. She has also received performance invitations from the Ministers of Culture in Ghana, Africa and Italy. The FPCO Chancel Choir will be touring Germany and Austria in March 2010 and will be giving a concert at the Salzburg Cathedral by invitation.
Dr. Bedell also serves as an active choral clinician and adjudicator in national and international venues. She is an active member of the American Choral Director’s Association, the Music Educator’s National Conference, the National Association of Teachers of Singing and the Presbyterian Association of Musicians. | |
