After School Outreach Ministry
One of five FPCO urban ministries, our After School Outreach Ministry provides one-on-one mentoring relationships with at-risk students from Howard Middle School. Many young people are never told that they are inherent leaders, that their character matters, and that God in Jesus Christ has a plan and calling for their lives. We know that there is potential for leadership in every young person because of the imago dei, the image of God, that is in everyone. We know that character can be formed and shaped towards goodness and thus we see our mentors as the key towards being a primary influence in the life of a student. Finally, we know that faith in Jesus Christ is essential to making leaders with character a whole package that is a blessing not only to this community, but also in glory and honor to God.
We love "our students" at Howard Middle School! During the academic year on Monday - Friday, our bus picks up the students and brings them to campus for a meal, an hour of mentoring and time for homework review. Students develop life plans, academic goals, and visions for their future as they align with the expectations of Howard Middle School, their parents, and their own desires. Cultural activities throughout Orlando and banquets for the whole family are extra opportunities for fellowship and interaction between the people of FPCO and our neighbors.

Each year in partnership with the Student Ministries Department at FPCO we send a group of ASOM students to Kids Across America in Missouri for a week of fun. If you would like to donate to this special trip, please contact Jenny Arrison.

First Presbyterian Church is committed to these students. The program can and will grow in direct proportion to the number of mentors we have. If you feel called and desire to learn more about the After School Outreach Ministry, mentor interest forms are available in the Mission office or you can download one here. You may also download a Student Application here.
