Jobs Partnership: A Mercy Corridor Initiative
To find out more about serving Mercy Corridor through the upcoming Jobs Partnership class, please attend the Jobs Partnership Information Session Thursday, January 12 from 6:30pm to 7:30pm in room 320A/B of the Edington Ministry Center.
The Spring 2012 Jobs Partnership Class will run February 7 through May 3.
Would you like to be part of a special partnership forged between First Presbyterian Church and Heart of Mercy Church? Nearly 80 volunteers are needed to serve as mentors, job counselors and hospitality team members in this meaningful ministry that involves community transformation. The Mercy Corridor Jobs Partnership, a collaboration of First Presbyterian Church, Heart of Mercy Church, and The Jobs Partnership of Florida, is at the core a 12-week Life & Work job readiness class for those unemployed or underemployed. Taught by local pastors and business leaders, the Jobs Partnership Class truly prepares participants for the world of work.

WHAT - Gently used or new: suits, blazers, dress pants, dress shirts, dress shoes, belts and ties.
New Only: dark dress socks, white undershirts, briefs/boxers

WHAT: Business/interview attire (suits, skirts, blouses, jackets, dress pants, shoes). All clothing must be clean and on hangers when donated.

Volunteer Opportunities - Could you be a...
Job Counselor? Build a relationship with two to three students by attending the WORK Class, 12 Thursday evenings (you’ll assist students as they build their employability through completing a career assessment, preparing a resume, building interview skills and job search techniques).
Mentor? Build a relationship with two to three students by attending the LIFE Class, 12 Tuesday evenings (you’ll assist students as they apply the Biblical principles they’re learning by facilitating discussion and by sharing your personal and professional experiences).
Business Partner? Interview qualified graduates to fill an open position at your company.
Refreshment Provider? Bring a light supper for our class members and volunteers before one of the sessions. For many this is the only substantial meal they get, and it helps them to be able to focus on the content and activities in the class.
Resume/Interview Coach? Attend resume and interview classes (you’ll work with students as they write their resume /or practice their interviewing skills).
Administration team member? Help with materials and class agendas. Check students in, give them their name tags, and any necessary paperwork for the night.
Hospitality team member? Set up and serve food, providing a welcoming presence for the students.
Financial Partner? Individually – or with your small group or Sunday School class – make a one-time gift to help a student with rent, utilities, childcare needs, etc. to help them stay in the program and make the necessary changes in their lives to gain self sufficiency.
