General Information

Instruction in the Arts can happen in group settings and through one on one lessons with an instructor. The Orlando Community School of the Arts is committed to both formats. We and our community partners believe that having excellent instruction by qualified educators is key to building a solid foundation from which students can move forward in the arts if they desire. Below you will find information on class and individual instruction. We look forward to having you grow in the arts!

After School Class Offerings

Students participating in after school offerings in a class (group) setting will assemble in the Lobby of Allen Yowell Hall at 3:05. The arts instructor will collect students, take roll, and transport all students to the instructional area. Students will be brought back to the AYH Lobby at the end of class. Instructors will wait with children until all have been picked up and signed out by authorized individuals.

Private Lessons

Students enrolled in private lessons will need to be brought to their lesson by an authorized individual. Please enter through the FPCO Edington Ministry Center Lobby and sign in at the desk. Both the parent and the student will need a Visitor Sticker. The parent should then walk the student to the assigned studio. Parents, or others delivering students to their lessons, may wait for their student in the OCSA Lobby. (Parents/Others are not allowed to sit in on the lesson as this is very distracting to the student) Vending machines and Wi-Fi connections are available for our parents. The private instructor will deliver your student to you in the OCSA Waiting area when the lesson is over and update you on the assignments for the following week. Parking is available in the parking garage on the corner of Jackson and Rosalind. Bring in your parking coupon for validation.

Students under the age of 18 are not allowed to be unattended on campus. No student is allowed to wander around the church campus before or after lessons. Instructors will supervise students during lesson times only. Neither First Presbyterian Church nor the Orlando Community School of the Arts will be held responsible for unsupervised students.

Instruments and Materials

Students must provide their own instruments (other than piano) for lessons, classes, and practice. Students taking piano lessons must have a piano (or a weighted key keyboard) in the home on which to practice. Each teacher will explain what lesson books they require and where to purchase them. Students are required to have their materials no later than the second lesson. OSCA students may not practice on the campus of FPCO.

Performance Opportunities

Performance opportunities are offered at least once per semester, excluding summer. Students are expected to participate, upon teacher recommendation. Performance opportunities may include worship services, studio recitals or other types of recitals.
