Memorial Giving Opportunities

While making funeral arrangements, you may wish to talk with your loved ones about the ways in which your family and friends can respond with acts of kindness. Many people wish to show their respect and sympathy by designating a charitable gift in lieu of sending flowers. In selecting an appropriate “opportunity for donations”, please consider the vital ministries of your church.

Here are six First Presbyterian Church ministries that you may want to consider:

  1. SEMINARIAN FUND (Heart of the City Foundation). First Presbyterian Church is committed to supporting and encouraging those called into full-time Christian service, and to providing financial assistance toward their theological education. The Seminarian Fund enables us to assist those pursuing a seminary degree.
  2. CHURCH STREET COUNSELING CENTER (Congregational Care). Church Street Counseling Center of First Presbyterian Church assists people with mental and emotional hardships during times of crisis and change. Our counselors offer such help from a Christ-Centered perspective. Contributions to the Fee Assistance Fund allow this ministry to offer care to those who are in need at an affordable rate.
  3. COMPASSION CORNER (Mission). This is our ministry to the homeless, hungry, and those who find themselves without a penny to their name. We offer a place for people to go and find shelter out of the heat and cold, to seek resources that might help their plight, to hear a word of encouragement and God’s Word—to give them new direction that they may be seeking.
  4. WILLIAM E. ALEXANDER INFANT CHILD CARE CENTER (Heart of the City Foundation). The ICCC offers weekday nursery care for children up to age 4 for working families. Contributions to the Bill Alexander Scholarship Fund allow the Center to provide top-quality care for children from low-income families while their parents are at work.
  5. AFTER SCHOOL OUTREACH MINISTRY (Mission). ASOM provides a positive, Christ-centered environment for at-risk students from Howard Middle School. Contributions allow this ministry to provide resources for these struggling adolescents from Orlando’s Parramore neighborhood.
  6. IMMEASURABLY MORE CAMPAIGN (Support). In 2006, FPCO embarked on a four-year capital campaign to retire the church’s long-term debt, to distribute several large grants to selected mission partners, and to fund 10 strategic initiatives to build a vibrant ministry based on our rich heritage.
